American’ Eagle’s loungewear line Aerie has made it their mission to have body-posi airbrush free campaign ads. The people that endorse the brand are called Role Models as well. Aerie’s new batch of Role Models may be the best yet. Iskra Lawrence who regularly models for the line is joined by new ambassadors, Aly Raisman, Yara Shahidi and Rachel Platten.
Raisman is a US Olympic Gymnast. She currently has three Olympic gold medals, two silver and one bronze. That’s only Olympic medals, her career total is 31 medals. Raisman was also the team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 USA’s women’s gymnastics Olympic team. Outside of the gym, Raisman is a brand ambassador for UNICEF Kid Power. The Olympian has recently made headlines for her powerful and moving impact statement against former team doctor and child molester Larry Nassar.
Shahidi is an actress known for her breakout role in Black-ish and now her own spinoff Grown-ish. Besides being a successful actress with her own show Shahidi is an activist and is very vocal about race and feminist issues on her social media.
Platten is a singer who’s breakout song, “Fight Song” is an anthem for young girls everywhere. The song is about taking your own power back and believing in yourself no matter what. Besides being a successful musician Platten works with a ton of charities. She is part of Musicians on Call, she’ll visit hospitals and perform bedside for patients, she’s a Music Unites ambassador and is a former ambassador for Live Below the Line and charity helping end world poverty.
These girls are true “Role Models” even outside of their Aerie campaign. But now they have a bigger and shared platform to empower young girls and spread body positivity.
