Shaun Roger White was born on September 3, 1986, in San Diego, California. Originally White would spend his time skiing on Okemo Mountain and Bear Mountain in Vermont and in Southern California.

Wanting to follow in his older brother’s footsteps, White switched from skiing to snowboarding at the age of six, and by the age of seven he wound up obtaining his first sponsorship. Shaun devoted himself to snowboarding from that point on constantly making it a point to perfect his craft and obtain as many career accolades as possible.

In 2004 White got a taste of fame when he starred in the 2004 documentary, The White Album and again a year later in the documentary, First Descent.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics, White won a gold medal in the half-pipe event. White, who also participated in the Winter X Games, had taken home a gold medal every year since 2002. In 2008 White executed a near-perfect second run and captured his third consecutive halfpipe title at the 2008 US Open Snowboarding Championships. A year earlier White took home a win at the Burton US Open where he placed third in slopestyle and first in the halfpipe. White was also crowned the first “Burton Global Open Champion.” As a result, White took home more than $200,000 and a new Corvette. In 2008, White started to cash in on his budding career when he released his first video game, Shaun White Snowboarding.

A sequel, Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage was released in 2009. Between his endorsement deals with various companies like Burton Snowboards, Oakley, Birdhouse Skateboards, Park City Mountain Resort, Target, Red Bull, Ubisoft, Adio and Hewett-Packard, White was estimated to earn more than $9 million from his endorsement deals by the beginning of 2009.

In 2010 White was the center of a major controversy involving the winner of the superpipe at the Winter X Games XIII. Although many argued that fellow competitor Kevin Pearce started off bigger, judges ultimately felt that White deserved the better score because he started off with a more technical trick and he had one more hit than Pearce. After taking home the gold medal in the superpipe, he also took home a gold medal in slopestyle. White’s wins and medals continued to pile up nicely, and he also won the FIS World Cup Men’s Halfpipe event in Vancouver.

Also that year, White cashed in on the other sport he had garnered much success in, skateboarding. He released his first skateboarding game, Shaun White Skateboarding.

In 2012 White was arrested for public intoxication and vandalism after attending the wedding of a friend, Patrick Carney.

In 2013 White won his sixth consecutive superpipe victory, and by the end of 2013, he won third place in pipe & slope contest at FIS Snowboard World Cup in Colorado. White expanded his acting career also, making various guest appearances in television shows and movies that year.

White also plays guitar in the electronic rock band Bad Things and has performed at the Lollapalooza festival. The band released their first album at the beginning of 2014.

White was the most talked-about Olympic athlete that year on Facebook.  In 2016, White was sued by Bad Things drummer Lena Zawaideh for sexual harassment and breach of contract. White and Zawaideh reached an out-of-court settlement in May of 2017.

While in New Zealand training for the 2018 Winter Olympics White crashed into the edge of a superpipe. In spite of his injuries, White qualified to participate in the 2018 Olympics this year which kick off, February 9,2018.
