March is just around the corner, which means it’s almost Women’s History Month. Women should be celebrated every damn day, but we’ll take a whole month dedicated to our achievements as well.

GrubHub is doing their part by encouraging users to order and dine in at women-led restaurants. GrubHub’s RestaurantHER campaign supports women in the culinary and restaurant world. Even though gender stereotypes having women being the home cooks, when it comes to the restaurant world equality is lacking.

According to RestaurantHER, only 19% of chefs are women, 7% of chef-restaurant owners are women, female chefs earn 28% less than their male counterparts and only 33% of restaurant businesses are majority owned by women.

GrubHub will donate $1 for every person who pledges to order and dine in at women-led restaurants for the month of March. They’ll donate an upward of $1 million. They also are going to be donating the first $100,000 to Women Chefs & Restaurant, WCR. The organization is a resource to help women in advance in the culinary world.

WCR has, “gave women in the culinary industry a platform to join forces professionally, magnify their collective voice, and elevate the position and recognition of the women in this dynamic and diverse world of hospitality.”

GrubHub’s donation will help with WCR’s culinary scholarship and be developing a digital resource for women in the industry to use when confronted with gender issues in the industry.

GrubHub created a RestaurantHER map so you can easily find businesses near you that are ran be women.

Now you have an excuse to order take out the entire month of March.
