Gabrielle Union Calls Out Headline For Referring To Her As ‘Dwyane Wade’s Wife’

Gabrielle Union may be married to an NBA all-star, but she’s established herself as an actress and businesswoman and despite being married to NBA baller Dwyane Wade, wants you to know that she has a name and it is NOT “Dwyane Wade’s Wife.”

On March 12th, Gabrielle Union and her hubby Dwyane Wade donated $200,000 to the March Our Lives gun control rally, a rally led by the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the wake of the mass shooting that took place at the Parkland High School, killing 19 people. Both Wade and Union live in Florida with Wade’s three children and Union immediately spoke up about the mass shooting shortly after news broke.

On February 14th, Union along with several other celebs tweeted out about the need for stricter gun-control regulations.

Like thousands in South Florida, we sent the boys to school in Broward County this morning… there are no words to describe the despair, horror & anger. This does not have to be our collective reality. How many more? How many children must not make it home?

Feeling compelled to lend a hand toward the movement, Union and Wade selflessly donated the money. While mostly all the articles which reported on the couple cited both Wade AND Union for their charitable donation, one news outlet could not seem to get it right and mentioned Union simply as Dwyane Wade’s wife.

.@DwyaneWade, wife donates $200,000 to student-ran gun control rally

— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) March 12, 2018

Shortly after WSVN 7 News tweeted the headline, fans on Twitter quickly called out the news outlet for name snub and came to Union’s defense.

We have apologized to @itsgabrielleu and the writer who posted the tweet has been disciplined.

— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) March 12, 2018

Her name is @itsgabrielleu GABRIELLE UNION. Say it with me GABRIELLE. UNION. Do better.

— Sachet Watson, M.S. (sweet potato over pumpkin) (@tchallasqueen) March 12, 2018

Me counting all the characters you had left to type @itsgabrielleu

— Shan-ta Claus 🎅🏼🤶🏽☃️❄️ (@smilum77) March 12, 2018

Following the snub, Union herself took to Twitter to call out the news outlet and letting them know that while she is married to Wade, she has a name.

When they let you know what they think of you. I have a name.

— Gabrielle Union (@itsgabrielleu) March 12, 2018

The outlet has since apologized publically several times and even retweeted the post with the correction.

You're right. We have apologized, and will have a word with our writer.

— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) March 12, 2018

We did tweet the story again, and included her full name.

— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) March 12, 2018

Dwayne Wade took to Twitter and has since accepted the outlet’s apology, but some followers still have yet to be convinced of the snub and think more should be done.

Thank you for the apology

— DWade (@DwyaneWade) March 12, 2018

Delete the old one then

— William B. Rosewood (@Willtothe) March 12, 2018

Fans want the old tweet to be deleted altogether, but the news outlet said that by doing so it looks as if they are hiding something and they have nothing to hide and are owning up to their mistakes.

We are not deleting anything.

— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) March 12, 2018

If we deleted the old one, it would look like we are trying to hide what happened. While we regret it, deleting it would be worse.

— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) March 12, 2018

What do you think? Should they delete the tweet? Was their apology enough?
