Last year HBO’s mini-series Big Little Lies took over and now the network has another mini-series coming out this year that the country will for sure become obsessed with. It’s called Sharp Objects.
There are similarities between Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. Both are based on novels written by women. Big Little Lies is based on the novel written by Liane Moriarty. Sharp Objects is based on the novel by Gillian Flynn. This isn’t the first of Flynn’s books to be adopted. Her novel Gone Girl was made into a movie starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
Both miniseries lead characters are strong women, who are also helping produce the project. Big Little Lies’ Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman starred and helped produce. Amy Adams is starring in Sharp Objects and is also helping to produce it.
The icing on the cake is that Sharp Objects is being directed by Big Little Lies Director Jean-Marc Vallée.

Sharp Objects Plot and Spoilers
This is all according to the book synopsis so the mini-series can differ. It’s doubtful that it will stray too far from the actual book though.
Camille Preaker (Amy Adams) is a reporter who just got released from a psych hospital. Preaker was admitted to the psych hospital for self-harm. She had hallucinations of words being cut into her skin, but then she actually put them there.
After her psych stint, she is assigned to cover a murder of a young girl named Ann Nash in her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri. Then the body of another missing teen girl, Natalie Keene, is found. Both Keene and Nash were strangled and had their teeth removed.
Being home means that Preaker has reconnected with her estranged mother Adora (Patricia Clarkson) and half-sister Amma (Eliza Scanlen). Preaker had a younger sister Marian, but she died when Preaker was young. Preaker and her half-sister grow close during her stay. Then Preaker finds out that her mother has been giving Amma pills to make her sick. Adora has Munchausen syndrome by proxy where the caregiver induces illness on whoever they’re caring for to gain attention and sympathy. Preaker connects the dots and realizes that her mother killed her younger sister Marian.
Eventually, Adora is arrested for the death of Marian and the two girls. Amma is a teenager, and she is sent to live with Preaker in Chicago. Then a girl in Amma’s class was found strangled with her teeth pulled. Amma was arrested for that murder and the murder of the two girls. She ultimately committed the murders because she was jealous her mom was giving them attention.
