If you missed last week’s episode of Riverdale, don’t worry, I got you.
First and foremost, we all need to take a deep breath and let out because we finally have an episode that’s not focusing on anything remotely related to the Mafia (whats the point?), Archie trying to be the “hero” and picking the Lodges over his own father. So it goes back to its roots that is Riverdale.
The episode opened up with Kevin thanking Jughead for coming in before school starts and he explains what he wants Jughead to be. The official videographer for Carrie: The Musical. Which Jughead doesn’t question anything and says that he’s in. Hold up, why did you give the person who has been investigating everything that has EVER happened in Riverdale, a camera? So Jughead becomes the official videographer for Carrie: The Musical. That cues the first group musical number. Then the camera cuts to Archie, doing pushups while reading the script. That’s the true drama that we all care about, not the fact that Chic is creepy or that a Mafia’s car has been blown up. That’s not suspicious at all. Keep in mind that Archie is doing this, AT THE SAME TIME! The horror. We need some time to recover from this. Maybe one of these days Archie would raise his IQ and snap out of the ‘Im going to protect this town despite being only a high schooler so I joined the Mafia.’ Everyone knows you cannot leave the Mafia once you’re in it, have you not seen The Godfather? Probably not.
It’s time, for the first group musical number. It shows Betty & Veronica, in their respective bedrooms, singing and getting ready for school. The camera cuts to Cheryl, singing with the cheerleaders and her girlfriend, Toni singing. We have yet to have someone in a show, asking the real question, how does everyone know the words to the song? Anyway, let’s skip to rehearsal.
During rehearsal, in true Cheryl fashion, calls out those who question her ability to play the lead role of Carrie White by demonstrating her singing ability and almost getting smashed by a sandbag that someone let go. After rehearsal, Kevin confides in Jughead that he received several threats demanding that the role of Carrie be recast, supposedly from the Black Hood. After thinking about it, Kevin gives in and Midge replaces Cheryl, right after Cheryl sings to Josie about how sorry she was that she had this scary crush on her. Remember the pig’s heart?
Cue to the tensions that arise between Archie and Fred after he finds out that Hiram bought Archie his first car. After Fred explains why he’s upset, Archie warns Hiram not to get between him and his father. Oh, Archie, he’s already in between you two, you just don’t know it yet.
Cheryl, doused in blood, confronts her mother for her actions against the family and demands that she be emancipated and to have Nana Rose to live with her as well. Which, let’s be real, that’s a smart move. That dear old lady doesn’t deserve anymore misfortunate. Alice goes to FP at the diner and tells him that she’s in the musical and he should swing by, which he did and saw Hal and Alice, holding hands.
During Alice’s performance, a set wall is moved up to reveal Midge hung up to the wall with knives, murdered by the Black Hood who leaves a warning of his return. I don’t want to say it, but maybe the Black Hood is Chic?
This week’s episode deals with what happened. Archie leads the charge to uncover the culprit; a revealed secret leads to a violent showdown; Veronica takes matters into her own hands when someone from her past comes to town seeking revenge.
