’13 Reasons Why’ Season 2 Premiere Date Announced

After more than a year of waiting, fans of the show 13 Reasons Why can now finally know when the second season of the popular Netflix series will be released.  Last night the cast and showrunners posted to their social media accounts the new trailer and announced that the second season will be closer than we thought as it will be coming back on May 18th, just a couple weeks away.

The show is based on the book by Jay Asher, about the fictional character, Hannah Baker who had committed suicide shocking those in her town. Before her death, Hannah had left a box of tapes for those who hurt or bullied her letting them know why she had committed suicide and how they were a factor in it. The story is set around her best friend Clay Jensen who has a hard time understanding why it all happened and tries to remember by listening to the tapes everything that went wrong and how we could have helped her.

The shows immediate success had people posting about how the show depicts bullying and sexual harassment and praising it for bringing awareness, and they even announced another season would be in the works. Unfortunately, not many viewers were excited about the show coming back as parents wrote letters to Netflix begging them to not bring the show back after their own daughters and sons had taken their own lives after watching the show. Netflix and showrunners have said that because of the adverse effect for this season creator/showrunner Brian Yorkey says the Netflix series will explore heavy subjects, only without so much graphics like in the past season. The effect of Hannah’s suicide, as well as sexual assault, will also be top in the second season of 13 Reasons Why.

This season will continue on where the show left off, answering questions that viewers were left wondering. In the finale, we saw Clay rekindle his friendship with Skye and the possibility of a trial against those who Hannah mentioned in her tapes. Things didn’t end on a happy note for most characters as Alex had committed suicide, and Jessica begins to tell her father about what happened with Bryce at a party. The big question that everyone had was what was Tyler doing with all those guns? Looks like we will have to wait a couple weeks to find out.

The new trailer doesn’t really give much detail on what is going to happen in the new season, but it seems there will not be an end to Clay’s troubles as he is seen at the end of the trailer with a photo that says “The tapes were just the beginning.”
