Miley Cyrus has always been outspoken about her fame, life and struggles. She’s been in the limelight since a young age thanks to the popularity of her Disney show Hannah Montana. In 2005, when she was just 15 years old she posed semi-nude for Vanity Fair. The photo of Cyrus sitting naked with a blanket draped around her and covering her front was controversial and Cyrus was forced to apologize for it.
Now 10 years later Cyrus is taking back her apology. She tweeted, “IM NOT SORRY F**k YOU #10yearsago” with a photo of the New York Post‘s headline of the controversy.

Cyrus went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to explain why now she is taking back her apology. She explained that the landscape of Hollywood has changed a lot and that the media sexualized her, which wouldn’t fly now. “Sure, some people thought I did something wrong in their eyes,” Cyrus told Jimmy Kimmel. “But I think it was really wrong of someone to put that this is my shame and that I should be ashamed of myself.”
She explained that the photo shoot wasn’t taken when a sexy undertone. “When this photo was taken, my little sister was there on set,” Cyrus said. “There was nothing sexualized about it on set, and it was everyone else’s poisonous thoughts that turned it into something it wasn’t meant to be.”

Cyrus said she originally apologized for the photo because she was trying to be a good role model and thought apologizing would be best. In her original apology, Cyrus said that she felt “so embarrassed” about the photo, which contradicts what she originally thought about the photo.
Cyrus is quoted in the Vanity Fair article talking about the semi-nude photo. They asked her if Disney would be “anxious” about the photo. “No, I mean I had a big blanket on,” Cyrus originally said about the photo. “And I thought, This looks pretty, and really natural. I think it’s really artsy.”
