While we all know that not all of us are meant to have a college degree or work incredibly hard for the rest of our lives, we also can embrace those of us who are “starving artists.”

The theory of the “starving artist” speaks to the existence of someone who is talented but can’t quite seem to get the right amount for their talents. Here are some careers that the starving artist can consider to bring in the next coin, please note that this isn’t in any specific order.


Photography

Many, many, many artists can make money simply off of being booked to take photos of others. You would be surprised at how many people are looking to be the next Instagram model. All it takes is a bit of creativity to edit the photos, and a professional Instagram page along with self-promotion and you’re well on your way to at least fifty coins in your account within a day or two.


Freelance Writing

Not all writers are neatly tucked in at night with a check that is guaranteed, in fact, if a writer isn’t tucked into bed it is because they are chasing their next opportunity. Freelance writing and blogging are quick ways to gain income by creating blog posts, web pages, and articles for multiple companies on your own time. So, are you good at writing? If so, people are looking for your voice on their website.

Graphic Design

You would be surprised at the number of business need help with creating collateral. Some places are always in need of new flyers, brochures, pamphlets, and other pieces of collateral for their company. You can use your creative eye to create the next great poster to advertise their company, no degree needed. If you can walk in, sell yourself well, show flyers you’ve made in the past, you’re enough to charge them for your service.

Some people believe that to be a marketer you have to go into debt in a university, that is if you want to be on a salary and as a paid marketer. But, if you want to come up with a few pennies in your pocket within a week’s time, all you need is some charisma and creativity as well as an under-promoted company. You can charge them to have you create a marketing plan that will get the word out about their agency. Or, they can hire you on the spot depending on their approval of just at creative and convincing you can be.

Modeling

There are some of us who are just aesthetically pleasing. We have the face, the boobs, the skin, and the hair. No matter if you’re a man, woman, or non-binary, you can model. Modeling has no age limit whatsoever. If you can pose, strut, and place your face in front of the camera with confidence then take note that your next job is awaiting you. There are thrift stores that can use models, find your favorite local boutique and convince them that you’re great to show off their trends.


Selling Products

It doesn’t matter if you make movies, blogs, books, painting, ceramics, or poetry, it can all be sold. Your creativity deserves to be rewarded for all the hard work that you have placed into it. If you can sell your own products then you’re a one-stop shop and a step away from being your own boss. Do not believe that your work has to be in a museum or on display for it to be sold, find the right audience and gain a regular clientele.


Videographers

In a time where digital media is everything to everyone you’re well on your way to making coins just to place together a thirty-second clip, it’s true. Some people are hungry to become Instagram famous, go viral on Twitter, and even make it to the big screen but they need someone to record them. You can be that person who charges a standard fee for a certain amount of hours, especially if you already have a love for film and videography.

Cosmetology

There are a lot of girls who do hair, and in fact, it is an entire industry alone. Some so many women spend their time on their feet creating wigs, hairstyles, and selling weave to others. You can join in. Even if you don’t like to do hair, there’s the option of becoming a nail tech where you start doing manicures and pedicures for others. Be cautious though, if you decide to take it seriously then you will find yourself needing certifications. In the meantime, find a couple of friends who don’t mind paying you for your service.


Construction Workers/Repairs

Buildings need to be constructed, but faster than that, there are homes who are in need of painters and carpenters. If you’re good at your hands and don’t mind repairing things, getting dirty, or even breaking a limb, this is the job for you. There are so many different places that need construction workers and repair people. You will always be in demand because something is always breaking and need fixing. If there isn’t a company for you, there is a friend. You can even charge to fix cars if you like.

If you create web pages for others or have your own, a quick way for money to come into your account is through the usage of ads. If you feature advertisements from other companies onto your own personal domain you can slowly but surely save money off of the business that you run, how beautiful is that?

After all this discussion about the various options, please note that not all artists are starving. There are some of us who have multiple sources of income while being our own boss.
