Here’s How Pride Month Is Being Celebrated Across The Country

When June rolls around it means summer is finally here, and so is LGBT+ Pride Month. Pride is every June in honor of the 1969 Stonewall riots. On June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid incited rioting and protests against the homophobic police continued days after. LGBT+ activist organizations and LGBT+ papers came to fruition after the riots. The Stonewall riots jumpstarted the movement for gay rights in the U.S. The next year marches took place on the anniversary of Stonewall in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Now pride marches happen all over the country throughout the entire month of June. Pride parades are more than a ménage à trois of rainbows, glitter and partying. It’s a time to celebrate the LGBT+ community, advocate for them and celebrate LGBT+ culture. Many of the Pride weeks and parades have volunteer opportunities, so make sure to check those out.

Here are all of the major Pride parades that are happening in the U.S. in June 2018.
