Childish Gambino Ignores ‘This Is America’ Critics

Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) has taken a step back from critics of his latest song and provocative video for “This is America.”

He has made few statements about the video, which addresses many of today’s hot-button social issues since it was released on May 6.

The multi-talented actor and singer told E News of the controversy, “I just wanted to make, you know, a good song.

“Something people could play on Fourth of July.”

He also made the following statement during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“Some friends have sent a couple (of the think pieces), but, for real, I haven’t been on the Internet since (it dropped),” he said.

“It’s bad for me. I’m really sensitive. I see one negative thing, and I track that person down.

“I go to their Instagram and be like, ‘You’re not so great. That baby’s not even that cute!”‘ he quipped.

Directed by Hiro Murai, “This Is America” has amassed more than 75 million views on YouTube since it dropped.

The video features topics deeply affecting the black community in America.

The singer is now the star of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

He told Jimmy Kimmel how he reacted once he realized he landed the role of a lifetime.

“I called my dad first and told him, and that was a big moment,” he said.

“He was proud. And then I went and got a large cheese pizza and then went home and watched Empire Strikes Back. That was it. It was like research.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters May 25.
