Becca Kufrin’s Bachelorette season premiered this Monday and already there are clear front-runners like Garrett Yrigoyen. He rolled up to meet Becca in a minivan that was suited up with car seats, soccer balls and anything you need if you had a family. It was a bold statement to make – Hi, we just met but let’s get married and have enough kids to fill this van up! – but Becca seemed smitten. Garrett went on to receive the first impression rose later that night.
But before America could even fall in love with Garrett, Bachelor Nation discovered that Garrett is problematic af. Ashley Spivey, a former contestant, shared Instagram images that Garrett (allegedly) liked from his (unverified) Instagram account. The photos were sexist, body shaming, homophobic, transphobic and ultra right-wing conservative. He liked an image that labeled Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg as a crisis actor.

Becca’s political viewpoints are vastly different than Garrett’s (alleged) politics. So everyone has been wondering what the heck she thinks of Garrett’s rumored IG likes.
The Bachelorette, who is engaged to a contestant, finally spoke out about Garrett’s Instagram fingers. “I want viewers to be open to everyone, and I want them to go through this season with me and watch my love story unfold with all of these men… because that’s how I went into this journey,” Becca told Entertainment Tonight. “I did things in the past that I’m sure wasn’t the best thing, but I just want people to stay open-minded to everyone.”
Becca, who can’t spoil the ending of the show, didn’t specifically talk about if her relationship or opinion of Garrett has changed since his alleged Instagram activity went viral. She did tell Entertainment Tonight that if she was with a guy who shared these views she would confront him. “We would have a discussion about it. We would get to the bottom of it and we would find a solution,” she said.
She went on to explain how a “double tap” on an image doesn’t define someone’s beliefs. “I am a strong woman and I do believe in certain things, but again, that’s what’s so great about our country – everyone is entitled to their own opinions,” Becca stated.
When talking with E! News Becca explained how she is just learning about Garrett’s IG ways because there is a strict no internet policy while on The Bachelorette. Becca is forced to get to know these guys face to face and not based on their social media.
“It’s different, but it’s nice in a way, because I was truly getting to know these guys for them, and hav[ing] conversations face to face with them about things that were important to me,” she told E! News. “So I feel like I got a much better picture of who these 28 guys were, as opposed to just looking on their social media and trying to make a decision of who they were by not talking to them.”
It’s hard for Becca to give a concrete statement on Garrett because she can’t spoil the show. But thankfully there are plenty of spoilers thanks to the internet (the reason why we’re in this mess in the first place) so we know how serious these Garrett allegations are and who Becca end up with.
Hopefully, we will watch Becca educate Garrett and change his double tapping behavior.
