Serena Williams’ Clapback To Body Shaming Trolls Is Everything

Serena Williams has got something to say to her body-shaming trolls who have been attacking the tennis champs’ looks for years. The mother of one has unfortunately been subjected to constant and consistent body shaming for years and she’s addressing the trolls once again.

In the past Williams muscular, bodybuilding arms and power have been labeled by some as being “manly” forcing the 36-year-old to address the nasty comments. However, in the July 2018 issue of  Harper’s Bazaar U.K., Williams is getting even more candid about the comments and shares how she takes on the trolls. During Williams interview, the Grand Slam champ broke down the healthy, empowering mindset she’s come to adopt to ignore the haters and keep things pushing.

The cover star told the magazine, “It was hard for me. People would say I was born a guy, all because of my arms, or because I’m strong. I was different to Venus: She was thin and tall and beautiful, and I am strong and muscular—and beautiful, but, you know, it was just totally different.”

During the interview, Williams was also asked about a 2004 story that reported that she said one of her goals at the time was to be a size four in which Williams brushed off the rumor quickly. “Oh God, I’ll never be a size four,” she said. “Why would I want to do that, and be that?”

“This is me, and this is my weapon and machine,” Williams went on to explain, pointing to her biceps. “But I love that I said that, because I can understand. I can show Olympia that I struggled, but now I’m happy with who I am and what I am and what I look like. Olympia was born and she had my arms, and instead of being sad and fearful about what people would say about her, I was just so happy.”

Williams says she had a feeling from the beginning that Olympia would be just as strong as her. “I knew I was having a girl, because when I was playing tennis in the [2017 Australia Open], I didn’t have one day of morning sickness, no symptoms. Australia is really hot, some days can be over 40 degrees [Celsius], which is insane, but she never complained. I said to Alexis, ‘This is a girl. Only a woman can be this strong.'”
