PSA important breaking news came out today! Legally Blonde 3 is officially in the works and Reese Witherspoon will be gracing the screen as Elle Woods once again. This year has taketh, but now it’s giving.
According to Deadline, MGM is closing a deal with Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, who wrote the script for the first film. They’re not the only original members coming back. Original producer Marc Platt and Platt Productions president Adam Siegel are signed on to produce the film with Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company. There is no details if any of the other original cast members will be coming back, but we can pray!
The script still needs to be written, but in a few years, we will hopefully be watching another Legally Blonde film with Elle back in all of her glory.
It’s been 17 years since the original Legally Blonde came out. The film grossed $141 million worldwide and has since been labeled as a cult classic. The movie became a pop culture staple thanks to its quotable lines and the bend and snap.
The movie catapulted Witherspoon’s career and made her a bonafide movie star. The sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde came out in 2003 and grossed $124 million worldwide. The sequel wasn’t as iconic as the first, Woods and Emmett move to Washington D.C. and she works on passing laws to ban animal testing, but if Elle Woods is on the screen we will watch.
Deadline says the plot of the third movie will be similar to the first movie a.k.a centered around women empowerment. Never forget when Elle strutted into the courtroom at the end of the first movie and showed Professor Callahan, Warner and everyone else that she has what it takes to be a lawyer.

It’s also interesting the way the tweet is formatted. Legally is in all caps and blonde is all lowercase, is this on purpose? Also in the tweet “Pink” is capitalized. Is LEGALLY blonde 3: Back in Pink the full title? Who knows! We can’t wait to find out.
