Graduating from college is exciting yet incredibly scary. You’re finally taking that step into the real world and slowly transitioning from school life to work life. This change doesn’t only affect how your days, but it also adds some serious changes to your core friend group. The girls that you’ve been spending every second of every day with may no longer be a 5-minute walk from your apartment. When you think about college is what brought you and your gal pals all together, right? But now what happens when you remove the one thing that brought you altogether from the equation?
Of course, you plan on doing everything you can to keep the crew together, but that doesn’t mean you won’t hit a few bumps along the way. Here are some common changes your core group may face in this new phase of your life. Don’t freak out because strong friendships were built to overcome any challenges that are thrown their way.
I’m sure, you’ve faced similar situations with having to take different classes in college, but that problem was solved by just catching up in the quad after class. Now that you’re out of class I’m sure you’ll be on the hunt for a job. With a real job comes a really busy schedule. Depending on what job you’re going for, you and your friends may have very different schedules to work around. It may seem impossible, but don’t give up, you will likely find a time to that works for everyone to meet up for drinks or a movie. It will be worth the challenge.
Finding Hangout Spots That Aren’t On Campus
So I’m sure by now you’re used to hangin’ in the library, dorm room, dining hall, or even the quad, right? Well here’s where things get a little tricky. Now, you have to find some fun hangout spots that aren’t on campus. Think of it like a game. Who can find the cutest spot this time? It may be hard to find a place that is convenient for everyone, but trying out different brunch spots, bars, and coffee shops to find the right one can be a fun way to keep in touch while you decide.
Some Of You May Move Away
Hello from the other side (of the world). Just joking! Honestly, what would our lives be without FaceTime? I know this isn’t ideal, and you would much rather run into your girlfriends’ room to tell her juicy gossip, but this is the best way you’ll still get to see her priceless reaction. I know finding the time to sit, relax and catch up can be difficult. But by dedicating 1 hour out of the week to catching up, you’ll make no one is ever out of the loop.
As mentioned before I know it may be hard to accept but you guys all might be scattered. This isn’t necessarily a terrible thing. Now you may have a cool, new spot to visit during one of your holiday work breaks! Not everyone is good at group chats, some of us don’t have a big social media presence, and a lot of us just can’t do phone calls. So what’s the next option? Save up those paychecks, and get the gang back together for a reunion.
This new change in your life is very similar to removing the training wheels from a bike. You will definitely wobble as you try to ride on your own. Your besties mean the world to you, so you’re willing to wobble a bit to keep close with them. However, that doesn’t mean that the struggle won’t be real. True friendships can survive anything!
