released her newest album, “Liberation,” on Friday, June 15, 2018. It is her eighth studio album, which happens to be Aguilera’s first album in six years, following “Lotus” (2012). Aguilera started to record this album in late 2014, and throughout 2015 and 2017, she collaborated with various producers and songwriters to reach her aspiring sound. Aguilera has collaborated with Anderson Paak, Kanye West, Che Pope, Mike Dean, Tayla Parx, Demi Lovato, Keida, Shenseea, GoldLink, Ty Dolla Sign and 2 Chainz. Talk about a handful!
After her release of “Lotus” in 2012, Aguilera decided to focus on music and her family. She later confirmed in April 2014 that she was working on new music while she was pregnant. In October 2015, Aguilera announced on the Today Show that she was recording a new album, which would be “an album of freedom.”
She stated, “I’ve been loosely working and sort of accumulating ideas for what my next album will be over the last couple of years. I’m excited for my fans to finally be getting something from me – it’s been a while!”
The first promotional single of the album, “Accelerate,” which features Ty Dolla Sign and 2 Chainz, was released on May 3, 2018 as well as its music video. It confirmed the album’s title, art, track listing and that the album was available for pre-order online. On May 11, 2018, “Twice” was released as a promotional single from the album. The second official single of the album, “Fall in Line” featuring Demi Lovato was released on May 16, 2018.
This album is described as a “hip-hop and R&B inspired” album by Billboard. Aguilera stated that she wanted to have the title album to represent freeing herself from anything that wasn’t her truth. She even posed on the May 2018 cover of Paper magazine bare-faced without makeup and retouching to represent raw beauty.
She stated, “That’s a constant I think in everyone’s life: every time you feel stifled in a current situation where you feel you’re not quite yourself or being bogged down by people’s opinions. Or when you feel like you’re stuck in a stagnant place.”
Aguilera’s new album has 15 tracks, which is available in CD or digital download form. This album was definitely worth the wait!
