Who doesn’t love taking selfies? You feel good and look good all at once. But how many of us actually get a perfect selfie on the first try? If you’re like me when it comes to selfies, you probably have to scroll through 200 options before finding the perfect one. Nailing the perfect selfie isn’t easy. You have to focus on the finding the right combination light, angle, setting, and photo filters. If you follow these simple tips and tricks, you’ll be sure to perfect that selfie game in no time.

Lighting is Everything

This may be the most obvious tip, but natural lighting is your best friend when it comes to taking selfies. Light is undoubtedly the best beauty product you don’t have to pay for. Instead of facing your computer screen or television for that extra glow, try turning toward a window with natural light. Or better yet, go outside and bask in the sun’s glimmer. Proper lighting can actually make undereye circles and shadows totally disappear.

Avoid Shadows

Ladies I’m going to say this once and only once. Shadows are every girl’s worst nightmare. They have the power to ruin any selfie. No girl wants her selfie to look all blurry and grainy. You want your selfie to look clear and flawless like the beauty that you are. Whether you’re in the club or just on your couch watching Netflix, how do you get a great selfie in little to no light? Turn to Snapchat. Front flash was a gift sent to us from the selfie Gods themselves. Once you save your selfie it to your camera roll, you can play with the tone to make it a little less blue.

Play Your Angles

Our favorite tip from the selfie queen herself, Kim Kardashian, always says, “Chins down, camera up.” When taking a selfie, hold the phone so that the bottom of it is level with your eyes. This will highlight and accentuate your fave features. If you’re unsure about what your best angle is, try standing in front of a mirror and slowly tilting your head in different directions. This will help you figure out which side and tilt show off that gorgeous bone structure. Even if you don’t have a defined jawbone, the perfect angle can fake it like no other.

Don’t Over-Edit

I’m such a fan of finding the perfect filter, but too much filter can completely ruin your selfie. You want your selfie to look effortless and too heavy of a filter can make it look way less natural. If you’re using a filter, you also have the option to not use it at max capacity so take advantage of that. When editing, use a really light touch. It’s easy to get carried away and start blemishing every little speck you see. Only touch up the areas that are glaringly obvious to you because those little lines around your eyes make you look human.

Embrace Natural Expression

Right before you snap that flick try talking to yourself, or playing music that really gets you feeling good. If you want to look like a queen in your selfie you have to feel like a queen. A little trick that I’m sure we’ve all memorized from America’s Next Top Model is the slight inhale. Slightly part your lips and inhale for a relaxed facial expression.

You all have it in you to get that perfect selfie. So even after you’ve stood in front of that camera for 20 minutes and feel like giving up, just remind yourself of these little tips to follow.
