13 Reasons Why Tweeted a teaser trailer for Season 3.
After an extremely controversial season finale, Netflix has picked up 13 Reasons Why for another season. This time, without the show’s star, Hannah Baker.
Katherine Langford announced that she would not return if Netflix renewed the show because she felt as though her character had proper closure in Season 2, “It definitely felt like time. For me, letting Hannah go was in Season 1; Season 2 was for Clay to let her go. It was being able to assist Clay on that journey.” Though an appearance by Hannah Baker would entertain fans, it would go against Clay’s healing process, a subject which the showrunner wants to explore in Season 3.
The show’s creator, Brian Yorkey, discussed how they would go about Season 3 without Hannah at the Netflix FYC Panel, “The rest of the story is about young people, as so many young people, maybe all young people today (learn) how to heal from the things that have hurt them…to make the world that they want it to be, not just the world they are inheriting…and above all, how to take care of each other.”
Though this quote emphasizes the healing process, Yorkey does not answer whether or not the show will do more to prevent suicide than just adding a PSA before each episode. With graphic depictions of taboo subjects, the show could stand to focus on healing.
Fans are already supporting the third season.
However, critics of the second season are denouncing Netflix for not taking mental health seriously.
Regardless what you think of the show, it is definitely returning.
