The ultimate scam unfolded on September 22nd, 2018. 37-year-old Antonela Milena Padilla from Barranquilla, northern Colombia, went to great lengths until her husband became seriously concerned for her well-being. Some people can get away with fooling their parents they’re sick so they won’t have to go to school. What if a woman faked a pregnancy? For nine months?
According to the Daily Mail, Padilla had used a cushion to fool her husband into thinking she was pregnant, increasingly filling it with more rags as the months went by to convince him that the pregnancy was real. She reportedly even printed off an ultrasound scan from the internet to show family and friends. True dedication.
However, the story takes a bit of a turn…which turns into a snowball effect. Padilla was scheduled to give birth by C-section at a local hospital on September 22nd. She reportedly left home at 10am and went to the clinic, but later said she had been kidnapped by a gang in a red van who bundled her inside and later drugged her. The creative storytelling doesn’t stop there.
She reportedly called her husband and family members that an organ trafficking gang abducted her so they could sell the baby on the black market. According to her mother-in-law, Padilla’s gynecologist even confirmed she had never been pregnant.
Her worried family took her to de Soledad hospital, where shocked medics called the police, who launched a massive operation to track down the alleged kidnappers. However, things just weren’t adding up. Especially, after a hospital evaluation revealing that she had suffered no knife injuries consistent with a ‘black street caesarean’. Officers were now doubting the woman’s story.

A blood test then found she did not have any traces of sedatives in her body. According to her mother-in-law, Padilla’s gynecologist even confirmed she had never been pregnant. A blood test then found there were no traces of sedatives in her body.
