Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, from Jersey Shore, was sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion today, according to TMZ.
According to Page Six, his lawyer asked for probation because he cleaned up his act, Sorrentino is sober now, but prosecutors wanted 15 months in jail for Mike. Mike has been sober for over two years now. He was fighting an addiction to painkillers for some time. Over the course of five years, he went to rehab twice. He was fighting his addiction while filming the original Jersey Shore, specifically the season the show went to Italy.
In 2014 Mike and his older brother Marc were indicted on conspiracy charges for fraud and tax offense. The two has an $8.9 million income between 2010 and 2013 and didn’t properly pay their taxes. They were charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and then Marc faced three counts and Mike two counts for filing flase tax returns from 2010 to 2012.
In April 2017 the two brothers were indicted with additional charges including tax evasion, structuring and falsifying records. The indictment alleged that Mike didn’t file his 2011 income taxes and made multiple cash deposits in less than $10,000 to different bank accounts.
Mike pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion. His Jersey Shore cast members, Jennie “JWoww” Farley, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Ronnie Magro, Vinny Guadagnino, Deena Cortese, Angelina Pivarnick and Pauly “Pauly D” DelVecchio were in court during his sentencing to support their friend and fellow juice head.
On top of being sentenced to eight months in prison, Mike will also have two years of supervised release. His brother Marc was also sentenced today. Marc was sentenced to two years in prison and a $75,000 fine.
Mike recently got engaged to Lauren Pesce. The couple announced their engagement in April 2018.
