Toddler Accidentally Shreds All Of His Parents’ Savings

The terrible two’s are alive and well. Toddlers are known for being brutally honest, falling in odd places, and sometimes being a little mischievous. Mischievous turned diabolical when the Belnap’s 2-year-old son, Leo, shredded $1000. The Utah based family had been saving up for about a year and placed the money in an envelope. Jackee Belnap, the mother, confirmed to USA TODAY that the money was to pay for University of Utah football season tickets.

Jackee went on to say that the money was “locked in a file cabinet until it was time to pay (Ben’s) parents. We then put it in an envelope.”

The envelope, labeled “Utah Utes Tickets,” contained $1,060 and was placed on a counter as a reminder to deliver it to relatives. When the couple was unable to find the envelope they started searching the house.

Ben Belnap, the father, said to KSL-TV, “I’m digging through the trash and she hollers and says, ‘I found it.'”

Leo is familiar with the shredder because he helps his mother shred “junk mail and important documents.”

Any couple would be devastated after losing over one thousand dollars, but, after shedding a few tears, the Belnaps started laughing upon discovering what Leo had done.

Public Doubts

A few Twitter users doubted the Belnap’s story, but Ben Belnap took to Twitter yet again to show that it was not a stunt to gain attention. They really did lose $1,060.

Will They Get The Money Back?

A government office that deals with mutilated cash might be able to help the family. The Belnap’s received a phone call to “bag it up in little Ziploc bags, mail it to D.C., and in one to two years, you’ll get your money back.”

Understandably Leo has been banned from the shredder.

Hopefully by the time the money gets back to the Belnap’s Leo will be allowed to go near the shredder again!
