As the old Christmas song “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” says, Santa always finds out who’s naughty and nice. Well, it looks like 22-year-old cosmetology student Kailey Hinson might be on the naughty list this year. The Arkansas State University-Marked Tree student is behind bars after threatening to bring a gun as a Secret Santa gift so another student could kill herself.
The investigation began on September 25 after the victim reported to campus police that Hinson drew her name for Secret Santa.
The Gift That Was Never Given
According to KAIT, Hinson said, “I’ll put a pistol in a box and bring it to her and she can kill her own [expletive] self with it.”
Hinson later told another student that she would take care of the problem by bringing a gun to school. Campus police took statements from the victim and two other students before bringing Hinson in for questioning.
Hinson spoke with officers after being read her Miranda rights. She agreed to speak without an attorney present. Hinson denied making threats towards the victim and wondered why people were saying these things.
After hearing about this another cosmetology student came forward and told campus police that she heard Hinson say she would kill the victim.
Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington was contacted by campus police and suggested they move forward with the charges. The case was given to Poinsett County Sherriff’s Office, which led to her arrest.

She was arrested by Poinsett County sheriff deputies on October 9. Charges include suspicion of felony communicating a death threat concerning a school employee or student, which is a Class D felony.
On October 5 Hinson appeared in court for a probable cause hearing. The judge set her bond at $25,000 cash.
