Many are asking what is going on at Baraboo High School in Wisconsin. A photo of the Junior Class of 2019 is going viral for taking a junior prom photo doing the Nazi salute.
The photo was originally shared on @GoBaraboo with the caption, “We even got the black kid to throw it up #barabooproud.” The post was taken down but not before it was screenshotted.
Carly Sidney posted a screenshot of the deleted tweet condemning the boys in the photo and Baraboo High School. The photo shows over 50 boys doing the Sig Heil salute and some doing white power signs. There are a FEW boys not doing the salute, but the overwhelming majority are doing a racist gesture.
this post has since been deleted, but i just want @barabooSD to be aware of the disturbing actions that are represented in this photograph. this is BEYOND sickening. pic.twitter.com/Fer5heTted

Her tweet went viral and was picked up by Jules Suzdaltsev, who has over 80,000 Twitter followers. The photo was taken by the official prom photographer and was later shared on their site. The photo has since been taken down.
If anybody from Baraboo High School in Wisconsin can clue me in on why it appears the entire male class of 2018 is throwing up a Sig Heil during their prom photos – that would be great.

The Auschwitz Memorial shared the image and condemned the students and school. “This is why every single day we work hard to educate. We need to explain what is the danger of hateful ideology rising. Auschwitz with its gas chambers was at the very end of the long process of normalizing and accommodating hatred,” the memorial wrote.
It is so hard to find words…

Since Suzaltsec shared the image many Baraboo classmates have come forward about the rampant racism that goes on at the school without any repercussion from the high school.
An anonymous classmate shared an Instagram caption where a classmate called her the N-word. She said that she is mixed and graduated from the school in June 2018. Her friend reported their classmate’s racism to the school and “they did nothing.” She wrote that the school said “‘they couldn’t prove it was her'” and didn’t further investigate.
Someone who would like to remain anonymous just sent me this message and picture of herself that was posted by a classmate.
Seriously, what is going on with this school? @BarabooSD pic.twitter.com/pHGbnelHct

Another classmate came forward anonymous saying that she was harassed and bullied by one of the boys in the photo for not supporting Trump. He harassed her on social media multiple times. When she went to the principal to report the harassment they just had him deleted the social media posts with no other repercussions.
I am being flooded with messages from students of this school about some of the guys in the group photo.
It sounds like there is a lot of racist bullying and the school tends to do nothing about it. pic.twitter.com/yvPZWI196A

Another classmate shared screenshots from a Snapchat video of white male students calling Latino students “dirty Mexicans.”
The DM that came with this was:
"This was posted on someone’s Snapchat story. The video is pointing to two LATINO students." pic.twitter.com/Ub666ofESf

Another classmate came forward and said that one of the boys in the photo was heard shouting “White Power!” in the hallways of school and didn’t receive any punishment. Instead, the school told the person that they “should look up videos of Black Lives Matter protestors being hostile towards police, and that I should get tougher skin.”

Another student said that N-word is said freely by white classmates while in school, while another student claims that an indigenous derogatory word was used by students as well.
Sounds like racism is not uncommon at this school. pic.twitter.com/WJ9yuEVV8J

The one boy in the top right of the photo, who is clearly not making any racist signs, came forward and condemned the others in the photo. His name is Jordan Blue and said he does not have the same beliefs as his classmates.
“I clearly am uncomfortable, with what was happening. I couldn’t leave the photo as it was taken within 5 seconds. The photographer took th photos telling us to make the sign, I knew what y morals were and it was not to salute something I firmly didn’t believe in. I attend BHS, these classmates have bullied me since entering middle school, I have struggled with it my entire life and nothing has changed,” Blue wrote.
I spoke with the only student who is visibly not comfortable with the “salute”, he provided this statement. pic.twitter.com/HbNBc8xLOK
