The Top Five Movies Every College Student Needs to Watch

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, college students spend four hours on an average day engaging in sport or leisure. With Netflix now boasting more than 137 million subscribers worldwide, movies are clearly high on the priority list for those taking a break from their studies. With this in mind, we’ve decided to give you a few ideas for your four-hour window of leisure.

Revenge of the Nerds (1984)

Watching movies at college about people at college is always fun and Revenge of the Nerds could be the best of them all. Released in 1984, this is ultimate underdog story that sees the social outcasts rise up and overthrow the campus hierarchy. With almost everyone having a little bit of geek inside them, this ends up being as much of a feel-good movie as 90 minutes of comedy fun.

Terminator 2 (1991)

Taking it back to the old school, Terminator 2 has to be on your syllabus. Although the original is still the best, many believe the 1991 sequel was one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s finest performances. The popularity of Terminator has led to a series of remakes and a host of spin-offs. For example, inside the LeoVegas Movie Classics lobby, the Terminator 2 slot game is a mash-up of betting and entertainment. Basically, in addition to 243 paylines and 1,500x jackpots, there are embedded movie clips, themed bonuses and plenty of sights and sounds movie fans will love.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Comedy is clearly the dominant genre when it comes to campus favorites. However, we can’t ignore Good Will Hunting. One of Matt Damon’s greatest roles, this movie is proof that anyone can rise up and conquer the world of academia if they put their mind to it. Even though you might not be a math genius like Mr. Hunting, there is that spark in all of us. If you can use that as inspiration, this is the perfect movie to watch ahead of your finals.

Superbad (2007)

If we look what the movie buffs at IMDb have to say, Superbad is the most popular flick for college students. Released in 2007, this was basically the movie that pushed the careers of Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse to a new level. As well as grossing $169.8 million worldwide, Superbad has gone on to earn a place in popular culture with quotes such as “I am McLovin” making it into our everyday vernacular.

The Hangover (2009)

Another classic in the mold of Superbad is The Hangover. Showing us all how to do Las Vegas like only Las Vegas should be done, this 2009 comedy has spawned two sequels and is now ranked as one of the best movies of the noughties. For someone looking for a way to escape the pressure of textbooks and lectures, The Hangover is fantastic. However, for the movie-loving public at large, it’s become so much more than that, to the point that if you go on a pilgrimage to Sin City, you can enjoy a “Hangover” experience with a Zach Galifianakis impersonator!

Of course, we’re not suggesting you spend all of your time at college watching movies. However, if you’re in need of a break and want to escape the world around you, our top five picks are must-see movies for any self-respecting student.
