If you’re hoping that Jay-Z and Kanye West are going to settle their feud anytime soon, well keep hoping. In Jay-Z’s latest song, he was featured on Meek Mill’s song “What’s Free“, he drags Kanye, Kim Kardashian and President Donald Trump.
His full lyrics read:
“No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and Ye
They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA, uh
I ain’t one of those house n***as you bought
My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours
My spouse (C’mon, man)”
“Look at my hair free, carefree, n***as ain’t Nair free
Enjoy your chains, what’s your employer name with the hiarpiece?”
Jay-Z is clearly referencing Kanye’s recent politically stint with a red Make America Great Again hat. Jay-Z has shown his dislike for Trump multiple times so it’s not a shock that he’s not here for Kanye’s MAGA stint.
He also says he doesn’t want to be compared to Kanye. Michael Jackson and Prince had a long-standing feud and were always vetted against each other. He raps that they’re both great so “they” try to separate the two. The “they” can be traced back to the media or to Trump. Trump has bashed Jay-Z while showing support for Kanye. He then goes on to rap about how he isn’t a “house n***a” which is a reference to his song “The Story Of OJ.”
House n***a is a reference to house slaves. According to Malcolm X’s “The House Negro and the Field Negro” speech, house slaves are defined as slaves who were brainwashed by their white masters to turn on the field slaves despite both being African-American slaves. Jay-Z is calling Kanye a house slave because he aligned himself with Trump by wearing the MAGA hat despite Trump’s racist behavior.
Jay-Z then raps how his wife Beyonce is better than Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian. Since Kanye and Kim got together it caused tension between the friends. Beyonce supposedly isn’t fond of Kim. Jay and Bey were notoriously absent from Kanye and Kim’s wedding in Italy.
Later in Jay-Z’s verse, he references Trump again and implies that Kanye isn’t free at all and has actually been bought by Trump. In 2018 Kanye got back on Twitter and tweeted about having free thought. His freedom of thought eventually led him to wear a MAGA hat. Jay-Z is criticizing Kany’s “free thought” and how he actually isn’t free at all.
The line clearly meant don’t pit me against my brothers no matter what our differences are (red hat) now go pick up Meek album . Drake and Meek on there together .

Jay-Z took to Twitter to clear up his lyrics. He tweeted that he doesn’t want to pitted against Kanye anymore even if they don’t have the same politics.
