The New York City Police Department does more than just solving crimes. The NYPD is also saving failed engagements, fishing diamond rings out of grates and returning the rings to couples!
The NYPD launched a public search party for a newly engaged couple who lost the women’s engagement ring in Time Square. The ring fell into a grate and was out of reach for the man to grab.
On Saturday, the NYPD tweeted footage of the couple trying to fish the ring out the grate.
“WANTED for dropping his fiancée’s ring in @TimesSquareNYC! She said Yes – but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate,” the NYPD tweeted out. “Out #NYPDSpecialops officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple. Help us find them?”
The attached video of the couple has been viewed over 7.94 million times.

They then attached a photo of the ring in a follow-up tweet.

The following day they tweeted again saying that they “still haven’t found out ‘almost engaged’ couple.” They shared more photos of the two urging their followers to call the tip line if they recognize the couple.

Their internet search party turned out to be a success! A few hours later they confirmed they found the couple. The couple, John and Daniella, was already back home in their home country but the NYPD will be shipping their ring back to them.

Daniella didn’t have a Twitter but made one to thank the NYPD for recovering her ring.
