Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland has announced that she’s quitting Twitter following the death of her 14-year-old cousin. Over the weekend, Sarah tweeted that her cousin, Trevor Canaday, was killed by a drunk driver. She asked her friends to pray for her family and donate to her extended family’s GoFundMe.
“Yesterday my 14 year old cousin was killed by a drunk driver name Jeffrey Eggerling,” Sarah tweeted, “My Uncle is in the hospital awaiting more surgeries.”

The GoFundMe was started by Trevor’s mom, Becky, and two sisters Tessa and Zoee. The fundraiser will help cover funeral and hospital costs for the family.
Sarah’s request to donate to her family’s GoFundMe didn’t sit well with the internet. Many people responded to her tweet wondering why she can’t front the funeral and hospital expenses.

How about getting off some of YOUR bucks to help FAMILY?? They should not have to beg on the internet

I'm a huge fan of you and your work, and I send my deepest condolences to you and your fam. But it is a very bad look asking people to pay for his funeral when you could pay for it with the money you make in the first 8 minutes of 1 episode….

Sarah responded to the hate by asking those to keep their opinions to themselves. “You don’t’ know all the details,” she tweeted. “And how dare you attach when a beautiful life has been lost.”
I’d like to ask those who have negative thoughts or opinions about the tragedy that happened to my family, to keep them to themselves. You don’t know all the details. And how dare you attack when a beautiful life has been lost.

Sarah followed up that tweet by announcing her departure from Twitter. The negative comments from people regarding her cousin’s unexpected death sent her overboard.
“You guys finally did it. Your horrible negative ignorant words have broken me. Happy?” Sarah posted. “Staying offline for a while. I have a special announcement and video releasing Wednesday I believe. So. There’s that.”

People even responded to that tweet hating on the GoFundMe.
