The holiday season is known for giving, which, in this day-in-age, entails many Amazon shipments to the house. Who needs to drive to the store when they can simply laze around in pajamas and get any dreamable gift delivered with free two-day shipping straight to the front door? Give yourself the glorious gift of staying inside by the fireplace or, if you’re like me and live in a New York City apartment, a small space heater instead of facing the bitter cold.
Staying inside is great, but what happens when you stay inside too long and the package waits outside for hours? Package thievery, committed by cleverly nicknamed porch pirates, is on the rise. According to Smiota, 25.9 million Americans had a holiday package stolen from their front door in 2017. The ways to protect yourself from these pirates are limited to outdoor cameras and booby traps, until now. A popular Youtuber has built a glitter bomb that farts on these devious package thieves.
Mark Rober, former NASA engineer-turned Youtuber, has over 4.4 million subscribers, and for good reason. He brilliantly mixes science with fun shown in his most popular videos, SKIN A WATERMELON party trick, which has over 99 million views, and How to Survive a Grenade Blast, which has over 46 million views.
His latest hit, Package Thief vs. Glitter Bomb Trap, was uploaded on December 17, 2018, after Mark had a package taken from his front door. When he brought his camera footage of the thief to the police, they said it wasn’t worth their time so Mark took matters into his own hands.
The trending video shows footage of package pirates unsuspectingly opening their stolen packages only to get glitter bombs shooting at them along with fart spray. Hopefully, these thieves learned their lesson, but we surely enjoyed watching them get their comeuppance.
