Ariana Grande Is Making History Headlining Coachella This Year

The Coachella 2019 lineup dropped today and surprise, Ariana Grande is headlining the third day of the music festival.

Grande’s headlining performance will make history in two ways. She is the fourth ever female headliner for Coachella and the youngest headliner ever. Grande is 25 and will still be 25 when she performs in the desert.

The “Thank U, Next” singer shared the news on her Instagram saying she is “humbled and excited as all hell” to perform at Coachella.

The three other women to headline Coachella are Björk, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé. Björk headlined in 2002 and 2007. Lady Gaga performed in 2017 as a replacement for Beyoncé, who was pregnant at the time. Beyoncé came back to finally headlined the festival in 2018. She was also the first women of color and black women to headline. Her performance was legendary.

Coachella first started in 1999 and in the last 20 years, only four women have headlined the show. The festival’s supporting artists have become more diverse. Grande isn’t the only one breaking barriers in 2019, BLACKPINK will become the first K-pop band to perform at Coachella.

The original lineup was supposed to be Childish Gambino, Tame Impala and Kanye West. But TMZ reports that Kanye and Coachella had a falling out when they denied the rapper to reconstruct a stage for his performance. Grande stepped in and now will be making history for the festival.
