Before Colton Underwood was on The Bachelor he was dating Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman.
Underwood dated Raisman from August 2016 to April 2017. The Bachelor told the Lady Gang podcast that his “worst heartbreak” when he and Raisman broke up.
“I wouldn’t say it was on the show,” Underwood told the podcast about his worst heartbreak. “I would say it was my first love.”
“While it was confusing and hard in the beginning, it also taught me a lot about myself, what I need, what I want, what I can do better in a relationship,” Underwood continued. “It was, like, a big growing, a big step for me. It was really tough.”
Underwood hasn’t spoken much about his past relationship with Raisman. Since the Larry Nassar trial, Underwood has been especially quiet about his past relationship with Raisman out of respect to her.
“To be very candid about it, she’s going through enough right now,” Underwood told Us Weekly in July 2018. “She doesn’t deserve to be in this at all. I have so much love and respect for ALy and the voice that she is and the role model that she is for every young woman out there.”
Raisman was one of the 150 plus women who Dr. Nassar abused. Raisman gave a powerful impact statement during Nassar’s trial about Nassar, USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee. Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison for abusing minors and child pornography.
Underwood originally asked out Raisman through a YouTube video. He was friends with gymnast Shawn Johnson’s husband Andrew East. Instead of keeping thins casual he went all out with a public statement asking Raisman out.
The couple were together for seven months and attended the 2017 Golden Globes together. They eventually broke up and Underwood ended up on The Bachelor.
