Mariah Carey is suing her former personal assistant for supposedly blackmailing the singer. According to TMZ, Carey’s former assistant has secretly recorded videos of the singer doing “embarrassing things” and threatened to release these videos unless Carey pays her $8 million.
The lawsuit Carey has filed is against Lianna Azarian. Carey hired Azarian back in March 2015 as an Executive Assistant. The singer claims that Azarian was using her credit card to buy personal items, buying things from retailers claiming they’re for Carey and even using Carey’s name for discounts.
The singer goes on in the lawsuit to say that she was unaware that Azarian was filming her. Carey states that Azarian was filming her “personal activities” and if they were released it would extremely “embarrassing” and damaging to Carey.
Carey claims she was paying Azarian $327,000 a year. She was fired in November 2017 and soon after the blackmailing began. The lawsuit claims that Azarian demanded $8 million or else she’s released videos and damaging information.
The lawsuit doesn’t state what’s in the videos but some are described as “intimate.”
Carey also demanded that the videos and incriminating evidence be returned back to her. Now Carey is suing for unspecified damages and wants more than $3 million in damages.
Carey isn’t going to fork over her millions that quickly. It was recently reported that Carey’s song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has grossed over $60 million since it’s 1994 release.
In the U.K. alone the songs earns over $500,000 every year in royalties. The song broke the Spotify record for most streams in a day. On December 24, 2018, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was streamed 10,819,009 times in a single day.
