The month of February brings up different feelings for different people. February isn’t just about romantic love and huge teddy bears. This is a time to remind all the special people in your life that you love them.
This why in Parks and Recreation Leslie Knope invents Galentine’s Day. “What is Galentine’ Day? Only the best day of the year! Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands & boyfriends at home and just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies,” Knope states.
The last line–ladies celebrating ladies–is what has always resonated with me. Celebrating and supporting your girls is important to everyone’s happiness and success! Galentine’s Day is a day to tell your ladies how strong and beautiful they are, and how much you cherish their friendship. It’s also a reminder that February is not just about a night out or spending A TON of money, it’s about being thoughtful in how you show your love and spending quality time with the people you care about.
Are you celebrating a Galentine’s Day this year? Here are seven ideas to celebrate your girl tribe and not break the bank! Leslie Knop would total approve of these Galentine’s Day celebrations.
In true Leslie Knope fashion, have a waffle themed brunch with your girls! Either go out to a favorite brunch spot, or you can save some cash (and add a little more fun) to brunch by having a waffle bar at home! Whip up some fresh waffles (or pancakes if you’re feeling so inclined) and then set out the toppings. You can layout fresh fruit, maple syrup, whip cream and some sprinkles for everyone to top their delicious waffles with. Make some delicious lattes or tea and you’re set.
Who doesn’t love ice cream? Spend an afternoon hitting up a new ice cream spot and walking around the city. You can also do a DIY ice cream sundae bar at home! Stock up with a few pints of ice cream and all the fixings. Cut the cost and add even more sprinkles to your Galentine’s Day celebration.
Have a girls movie night and watch all your favorite romcoms. There are always a few new ones out in the theater or spend the night at home cuddled up on the couch with popcorn. Whatever floats your boat!
Valentine’s Day Cards
Spend quality time with your friends with a day of crafting. Turn up the tunes and make a fresh pot of tea and spend the whole day making things together. Then send them to family and friends, or drop them off at your local hospital or children’s center. The best part is making them together, and then you can light up someone else’s day.
I love a good HIIT or yoga class, especially with some awesome babes by my side. Look up workout classes at a local studio or if you live somewhere warm, just bring your yoga mats to a local park and enjoy being outside together. You’ll have a blast spending time together and getting those endorphins up.
I love a good manicure. It always makes me feel more put together. Head to the salon with your friends or make your living room into a spa! Have everyone bring their favorite nail polishes and take turns painting each other’s nails. You can make this a full spa night by making your own Epsom bath salts or sugar scrubs. They’re very easy and inexpensive to make.
Among my friends, I am definitely the baker and they’re always asking me to bake or teach them to bake! Take a day and spend time cooking up your favorite treats with your besties. Baking with others is half the fun. Add some more cuteness with personalized wooden spoons or aprons.
