What better way to tell your significant other that you love them than by permanently inking yourself with a tattoo dedicated to them, right?! Wrong. There are many celebrities in Hollywood who are known for doing this in just about every relationship they are in. Seems like these celebrities must have forgotten that not all love lasts forever, but tattoos do.
Here’s a list of the top 10 celebrity tattoo coverups.
10. Kylie Jenner
For a majority of Kylie’s teen years, she was in a serious relationship with rapper Tyga. During her three year relationship with the rapper, she tattooed a simple lowercase ‘t’ on her ankle. Permanent enough to make a statement of her love, but small enough to not stand out. After her split from Tyga and the start of her relationship with Travis Scott in 2017, Kylie transformed her ‘t’ tattoo into the initials “la” as a homage to Kylie’s city, Los Angeles.
As for rapper Tyga, who has Kylie’s named tattooed on his arm, it seems like it may be time for him to cover up that ink.
9. Keith Urban
Keith Urban once got the Latin phrase “omnia vincit amor” meaning “love conquers all” tattooed on his wrist with his girlfriend at the time. When that relationship ended and he met his current wife Nicole Kidman, he covered up the Latin phrase and replaced it with Nicole’s initials. While he didn’t quite learn his lesson about getting tattoos for significant others, here’s to hoping that this love lasts forever.
8. Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria marked her marriage to basketball player Tony Parker with three tattoos in his honor. The first, the word “nine” on the back of her neck, referencing his jersey number. Second, the date “07-07-07” on her wrist, their wedding date. And third, his initials somewhere hidden on her body. After the two divorced in 2010, Longoria waited two years before getting all of these tattoos removed. The best form of closure.
7. Heidi Klum
To celebrate her fourth wedding anniversary to then-husband, Seal, Heidi Klum got his name tattooed on her forearm along with three stars with initials as a tribute to their children. When the couple announced their divorce, Heidi was quick to remove the Seal tattoo but left the tribute to her children.
6. Denise Richards
In 2002, Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen got together and to profess their love for each other, they each got one another’s name tattooed on them. The couple divorced roughly five years later and Denise took action by covering up her “Charlie” tattoo with a picture of a fairy. Sheen also completely removed his “Denise” tattoo from his wrist.
5. Angelina Jolie
Remember Angelina Jolie’s “wild days” when she was married to Billy Bob Thorton? Neither do we, and it’s because she erased all memory of her relationship when she covered up her famous ink dedicated to him. Jolie tattooed “Billy Bob” on her shoulder and when the couple divorced in 2014, she removed it and has since covered it up with coordinates of her family member’s birthplaces.
4. Ariana Grande
This pop star is known for her tiny tattoos covering her body, but her ink obsession seems to have picked up during her relationship with Pete Davidson. Grande and Davidson had many matching tattoos but after the split, she didn’t waste any time in covering them. The two both had the word “Reborn” tattooed on their hands, Grande later covered this up with a leaf. She also had “8418” tattooed on her foot, which was a tribute to Davidson’s late father. Grande since covered this up with the word “Myron” which is a tribute to her ex, the late Mac Miller. Myron is the name of Mac’s dog that she had adopted since his passing. Ari still has a long way to go before all of her ex-inspired ink is covered up.
3. Pete Davidson
Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson is no stranger to ink, but when his whirlwind romance with Ariana Grande started he became a frequent flyer at tattoo parlors. During their relationship, Pete got upwards of 7 Ariana Grande themed tattoos including the Playboy bunny mask that Grande famously wore on the cover of her Dangerous Woman album. As their relationship came to an end, he covered this with a heart with the letter ‘a’ next to it.
It seems as though this is not Davidson’s first rodeo in tattoo cover-ups. Prior to Ariana Grande, he was in a relationship with Cazzie David and he tattooed a cartoon of her face on his forearm. Once he started dating Grande, he covered this portrait with a picture of a forest.
2. Amber Rose
Many of us know Amber Rose from her very famous relationship with rapper Wiz Khalifa. If there’s one thing we know about Amber Rose it’s that she is proud of the woman she is and the choices she’s made. Except maybe the tattoo of Wiz Khalifa’s face on the back of her arm. Since the two split in 2014, Amber has covered up her ink with the face of musician and rocker, Slash.
1. Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp’s tattoo cover-up is easily one of the most famous in the history of celebrity tattoos. When Johnny Depp was dating his Edward Scissorhands co-star Winona Ryder, he tattooed the phrase “Winona Forever” on his shoulder. The couple inevitably split and in 1994, Depp removed the last two letters of Winona’s name creating a new piece of ink that reads “Wino Forever”. Poetic and probably much more accurate.
It seems as though Johnny Depp is a repeat offender. In 2015, he got a tattoo dedicated to his then-wife Amber Heard. He tattooed her nickname “Slim” across his knuckles. After going through a nasty divorce, he changed the ink across his knuckles to read “Scum”. Well played, Johnny.
