5 Romance Books To Brush Up On This Valentine’s Day

Any fellow bookworm will love an excuse to buy or borrow a host of new books to hit their Goodreads reading goal. So what better excuse than Valentine’s Day? As much as we may love to hate February 14, you can’t argue with that fuzzy feeling of snuggling up under the covers with a good book. Ahead we’ve rounded up five romance books you’ll want to be yours this Valentine’s Day.

1. He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Guide To Understanding Guys

Sometimes you just need a few reminders that the guy from Tinder you’ve been so desperately trying to score a date with is just NOT THAT INTO YOU. This book by Greg Berendt and Liz Tuccillo kind of states the obvious stuff (he’s not into you if he’s not texting you, etc.) but it was good to see these lessons illustrated through examples. Dating can be frustrating, especially when the person you’re talking to seems like the perfect match for you, but this book will teach you to move on girl because he doesn’t deserve to be your Valentine.

2. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

If you haven’t yet read Jenny Han’s bestseller, promise you’ll at least pick it up before Valentine’s Day? Or at least watch the movie on Netflix. It’s probably all of our worst nightmares to have our crushes read the crazy-but-well-intentioned love letters we’ve written but never intended to send. And that’s exactly what happens to protagonist Lara Jean. Question is, who sent her love letters to her crushes? Guess you’ll just have to find out.

3. Love And First Sight

High school is a crazy time for love and dating, but I have never read a high school romance book with a more unique plot line. Josh Sundquist’s book follows a teenager named Will who has been blind since birth. He befriends and falls for a girl named Cecily but after a chance surgery that allows him to regain his sight, Will realizes that Cecily doesn’t quite look the way everyone described her to him. It’s a light, easy read without too much heartbreak.

4. Girls Who Travel

When I first picked up this book by Nicole Trilivas, I thought it was going to be more about a millennial girl’s mission to escape a boring office job by traveling the world. But instead, it focused more on the two loves this girl (Kika) has to choose between while abroad. There’s Lochlon the rowdy Irish boy who she has some (travel) history with and who understands her. Then there’s asshole-at-first-sight Aston who has a surprisingly sad past but is sweetly protective of Kika as he warms up to her. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, or love if you really want to get in the V-day spirit.

5. Match Made In Manhattan

Calling all dating app users! This book by Amanda Stauffer will leave you feeling both satisfied and slightly freaked out…let me explain. It follows a protagonist who uses a popular dating app to meet new men in Manhattan, however, her dating escapades don’t go as planned and she finds herself meeting up with some NYC weirdos, creeps, and guys she probably can’t talk about with her besties — including a secret agent who invites her to his apartment full of guns on the first date! The best part of this book is that these guys are all based on real men from the author’s life that she has dated before. Kind of creepy to think that all these guys are running around Manhattan as we speak, but also kind of satisfying to read the story of a young dater going through the same swipe and match motion as you are.

6. Single State Of Mind

Fans of The Bachelor will go crazy for this book by former contestant and bachelorette Andi Dorfman. Andi brings the sass from her first book into this one as she describes her adventures as a single NYC woman going on dates, meeting hot baseball players and flying out to Canada for a first date. If you feel like some people have all the luck when it comes to love, this book will be a fun (and hilarious) reminder that you aren’t alone.
