Ariana Grande Deletes A Series Of Tweets About Appropriating Japanese Culture

Ariana Grande’s most recent tattoo made headlines for its major misspelling. The tattoo was supposed to say 7 rings in Japanese, but it instead said Japanese BBQ grill.

Grande tried to fix the spelling mistake but is still being called out for appropriating Japanese culture. There is nothing related to Japan or the country’s culture in the single or any of her music. She’s used Japanese on album art and merchandise.

Many of her fans have called her out for using Japanese culture for aesthetic purposes and profit. Grande responded to those critics in a few now-deleted tweets.

Her tweets started after TMZ posted saying that Grande was offered a million dollars to remove her Japanese BBQ grill tattoo. She replied to their tweet, “I’ll give y’all a million to get off my nuts.”

A fan tweeted at Grande telling her to apologize for using the language for aesthetics.

Grande then tweeted and deleted this response to the fan, “I have actually many a time. I also went back and got it fixed with the help of my tutor to be more accurate. I can’t read or write Kanji obviously. What do you want me to do? It was done out of love and appreciation. What do you want me to say?”

She then sent out another tweet, “You know how many people make this mistake and DON’T care just cause they like how it looks? bruh…. I care soooo much. What would you like me to do or say? Forreal.”

Grande sent out another tweet after that. “There is a difference between appropriation and appreciation. My Japanese fans were always excited when I wrote in Japanese or ore Japanese sayings on my clothing. However, all of the merch with Japanese on it was taken down from my site not that anyone cared to notice.”

She finished her tweeting explaining how her anxiety and how Twitter is an unforgiving place.

“I have crippling anxiety lol. I don’t like hurting people. People on this app really don’t know how to be forgiving or gentle when someone has made an innocent mistake. No one considers feelings other than their own. It’s very pointless. Ion [sic] even know why I’m talking about this anymore.”

Fans are not here for her defensiveness on the matter.
