One thing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not leave us guessing on is the baby’s gender — it’s a boy! Shortly after the Duchess of Sussex gave birth in the early hours of Monday, May 6, the family made an official announcement that she had given birth to a healthy baby boy. Still, the world was given no hint on the name. At least knowing the gender might be able to narrow down our guessing options.

No, we are not talking about the big reveal of the name, but at least we got a peek at the Royal Baby! While the baby’s name is still being kept a royal secret, the world was given a glimpse of Baby Sussex on Wednesday morning, two days after his birth. The Duke and Duchess introduced their son to the media at the Windsor Castle, and the Duchess described him as being a “dream”, with “the sweetest temperament”.
Traditional Royal Baby Names
Many are wondering whether the baby will be given a traditional royal name, or if the Duchess will incorporate her American roots to give the baby an unconventional name. Among traditional baby names that are typically given to males in the royal family are:
Charles

Charles is the name of the Duke’s father, who is next in line for the throne. It is also the Duke’s middle name — Harry Charles. This could be a strong contender for Baby Sussex’s name if the pair chooses to go a traditional route.
Philip

Philip is the name of Queen Elizabeth’s husband. It is also Prince William’s middle name.

If the Duke of Sussex was looking to give the ultimate honor to his brother, Prince William, he might consider naming his son after him.
Modern Royal Baby Names
One of the most discussed topics since Megan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex has been her attempts to modernize the Royal Family. This makes us wonder whether she and Prince Harry will stick to tradition, or, give their son a modern name, perhaps with an American twist. Here are some possibilities:
Spencer

Spencer is certainly not a traditional royal name, however, it is the maiden name of the late Princess Diana, Prince Harry’s mother. This would be an extraordinary name to unite the U.S. and the U.K., while still having a touching meaning behind it.
Markus

Markus is the name of the Duchess’ good friend, more importantly, the person who set her up with Prince Harry! What better way to thank the perfect matchmaker than to name their son after him? After all, without him, there would be no Royal Baby!
Whatever name they decide on, we’re sure that it will be just as adorable as Baby Sussex is.
What They Decided On

The Duke and Duchess have officially revealed the name of their baby boy — Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Let’s break this name down: Archie, meaning “truly brave” is certainly an adorable name. The meaning behind Archie will perhaps determine truly how brave the little one will grow up to be. Harrison is a name that means “son of Harry”. Being that Archie’s father is none other than Prince Harry, this makes sense. Lastly, Mountbatten-Windsor is a surname used by some members of the royal family. Interestingly enough, the Duke and Duchess could have chosen to give little Archie the title of “Lord” before his name, but chose not to.
