The West Beverly class of ’93 is back in an all-new reboot, airing on Fox later this summer.
The network announced in February the majority of the original cast from the ’90s drama, including Jason Priestly, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, and Gabrielle Carteris would be returning to play “heightened versions of themselves in a brand-new serialized drama – with a healthy dose of irreverence – that is inspired by their real lives and relationships.” At the time, Shannen Doherty and the late Luke Perry had not yet signed on, but since then, Doherty has announced she’d be returning.
The reboot, titled BH90210, will be six episodes long and will premiere on Aug. 7.
Although the teaser, released on May 8, doesn’t reveal much, it does show the original cast getting together for the first table read, all reuniting for the first time in years.
“The gang returns home,” the teaser points out.
Beverly Hills, 90210 ran on Fox from 1990-2000. A reboot, simply titled 90210, then ran on The CW from 2008-2013 and saw multiple cast members returning, including Garth, Spelling, and Doherty, with Priestly directing a few of the episodes.
According to Fox, the show will follow the stars as they reunite for the first time in two decades in an order to attempt to get a 90210 reboot going.
“What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?” the network said.WENN.com
Spelling accidentally confirmed rumors of a reboot during an on-air interview before Fox officially announced the revival when she explained about a recent paparazzi photo of the cast. “We were having coffee in between meetings with networks. It’s confirmed. We’re doing a new 90210.”
Later, she opened up to PEOPLE about getting the chance to work with her former costars again, saying, “We’re all really excited to get back to work with each other every day. We’ve come full circle and it feels really great. This is the ultimate high school reunion and we’re going to be back together every day and I’m so excited.”
Although Perry, who died in March from a massive stroke, had not signed on for the reboot, Spelling said he’d try to do as many episodes as possible since he was filming The CW’s hit Riverdale. Since his stroke, it’s been reported that the show will be a way to honor him and that the cast will do a tribute to him.
BH90210 will premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 7 on Fox.
