Kit Harrington Is In Rehab After Game Of Thrones: Here Is Why

Even after filming the final season of Game of Thrones, the cast members’ jobs are not complete until after enduring months of tiring media tours promoting the show. This activity particularly tired out one Kit Harrington, who has since checked himself into a rehabilitation center to “work on some personal issues,” the actor’s representative relayed to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues,” was the exact statement given by the representative to The Hollywood Reporter. More than just media tours, Harrington found himself hosting Saturday Night Live, starring on magazine covers, and appearing on late-night talk shows over the course of the airing of the final season of Game of Thrones, which ran from April to May of 2019. May 28, 2019, saw Page Six break the headline that Harrington had checked himself into Connecticut’s Privé-Swiss facility for stress and alcohol use slightly beyond a month prior. As reported by Page Six, Harrington has been utilizing the facility’s extensive mental health resources, such as what The Hollywood Reporter relayed as “cognitive behavioral therapy, psychological coaching and mindful meditation.”

Harrington’s high level of stress relative to his involvement in Game of Thrones is no surprise to fans, as Harrington has previously confessed feelings of escalated stress when his character in the series, Jon Snow, became a more central figure in the television show’s narrative. In an interview with Variety magazine, Harrington had revealed that he began going to therapy during this period of his character’s development on the show, becoming increasingly doubtful of his own propensity for acting. He said, “I had felt very unsafe, and I wasn’t talking to anyone. I had to feel very grateful for what I have, but I felt incredibly concerned about whether I could even f*****g act.” While it is unlikely that Harrington himself will return to reprise the role of Jon Snow, spinoffs of Game of Thrones are being discussed by Casey Bloys, the programming president of HBO.
