Classes are officially out and it’s time to kick back, relax, and think about literally anything other than school work. If you’re not taking Summer classes, these four months are your only months of true freedom – the other ‘breaks’ are haunted by group projects, long readings, and wordy essays that must be completed before classes resume.
Summer is hands down the best time for university students to jet set and escape their beloved college town. But planning the perfect Summer getaway can be no easy task. The only thing separating you from the tropical location of your dreams is one admittedly seemingly endless flight. But before you decidewhether you’ll read or take a snooze on the plane, you must decide where you’re going – and we’re here to help.
San Juan, Puerto Rico

Nestled along the Mexican East coast you’ll find the breathtaking Cancun, where you can also spend your days baking on coral sands, or elect to visit the Mayan Ruins. Cancun is home of so much culture that you’ll never be bored on this trip. Whether you’re interested in aquariums or archeology, you’ll love the sight-seeing as much as you love relaxing beachside.
They say, “It’s better in the Bahamas” – is it true? Go find out for yourself! Nassau is just one of over 700 islands that make up the Bahamas – but there’s a reason it’s known as ‘Paradise Island’. The island, which happens to also be the capital, covers685 acres and offers something for everyone from blissful restoration to buzzing nightlife. It’s said to be the center of both historic culture and modern amenities, so you really can’t go wrong!
If you’re a Bob Marley fan, head over to the museum dedicated to him to learn more about his iconic legacy. Alternatively, you can explore a cave, swim with dolphins or go shopping in a marketplace. There are also countless luxurious hotels you can book to both rest your head, tan by the pool, or drink at the bar without ever leaving the resort.
If you want to stay a little closer to home, you can have a tropical getaway without all within American borders in southern Florida. While it’s known as a prime destination for college Spring Breakers, this location can be visited in any warm months. Miami is said to be home to some of the best nightlife for those ready for a more energetic scene. If you can survive the heat, you can enjoy hours by the waves basking in the sun and maybe even meeting some other college travelers.
Wherever you decide to go, the most important thing to remember is to relax and forget about all the stress from your exams and classes. Sometimes some Vitamin D is just what the doctor ordered to recover before your next busy semester!
