Five Classics For Your Next Movie Night

While a night out on the town can be fun, sometimes all you need to relax from the stress of college is a movie night in with your roomie. Ideally you and your roommate share the same taste in movies, but unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Whether you’re indecisive or just can’t agree, finding the perfect movie that you both want to watch can spark a long winded discussion that’s simply more hassle than it’s worth.

But luckily for you, there’s a set of classic movies that are perfect for any and every audience. These movies are the ones that have developed enthusiastic fandoms that spend their free time writing extensive fan-fiction spin-offs or creating family vacation t-shirts inspired by their favorite characters.

We’re not saying you have to become that dedicated to these iconic films, but you should definitely at least consider watching.

Star Wars

With nine movies to select from, you have a lot of options within this estimated $7.3 billion franchise. The storyline follows Luke Skywalker and Han Solo as they attempt to defeat Darth Vader and save the Galactic Empire. Even if you’ve never seen a movie, you’ve probably heard those names before solely based on their fame and following. If you love what you watch, both Florida and California are opening Star Wars themed lands in Disney later this Summer, so you can take a trip to truly immerse yourself in a galaxy far, far away.

Jurassic Park

Before there was a kingdom, or even a world, there was just a park. This adventure sci-fi film may make you think again about wanting to visit a theme park as you witness a family vacation gone wrong. A power outage quickly escalates to dangerous dinosaurs on the loose – triggering a race for survival. And if you’re not convinced yet, Chris Pratt stars in ‘Jurassic World’, enough said.

Harry Potter

Whether you love it or hate it, you have to see it! Inspired by the classic JK Rowling novels, there are eight films to enchant your inner wizard. These films will have you wanting to ditch your university for a mystical boarding school where literally anything is possible. Hate walking to class? Take a broomstick! But beware, with great power comes great responsibility – you must be ready for whatever death eater or evil serpent life throws your way.

Love Actually

This list would definitely be incomplete without at least one rom-com. However, this isn’t just for sappy romance fans, it also has elements of drama and comedy that will keep any audience interested. This charming British film is technically a Christmas movie, but if you ask me it’s perfect for any month of the year. This film will make even the coldest hearts believe in love while watching eight people find love in the most unexpected places.

Mamma Mia

Okay, maybe two rom-coms. But you can’t go wrong with subpar covers of classic ABBA songs. Follow Amanda Seyfried as she attempts to find her father before getting married on the beautiful island of Greece. This movie will have you laughing, crying, and singing from the top of your lungs all in 90 minutes, what’s not to love?

In college, you don’t get a lot of free time. Between your loaded class schedule, involved extracurriculars, endless homework, and buzzing social life, you barely have time to kick back in your bed with your Netflix subscription. However, one way or another when you manage to carve out some time for a movie night, you’ll know exactly which films to go to.
