On June 10, 1973, Helene Evans and Richard Swain welcomed a beautiful baby girl, named Faith Renee Evans. Faith was initially born in Lakeland, Florida but, when her father, who was an aspiring musician left her mother, they relocated to Newark, New Jersey when little Faith was six months old. A professional singer herself, Helene decided to leave Faith in the care of her elder cousins, Johnnie Mae, and Orvelt Kennedy. Faith grew up calling them her grandparents but, didn’t find out they were her cousins until she got older. Raised in a Christian home, Faith went to church every Sunday, and by the age of two, little Faith was already singing. When she reached high school, Faith began singing in jazz clubs and started participating in pageants and contests around Newark. Anything to get her talent noticed. She graduated from University High School in 1991 and moved to New York to be a marketing major at Fordham University. She would study there for a year before moving to Los Angeles to chase her dreams in what she wanted to be. A singer. It was here where she would not only become one of the greatest female voices of the ’90s but, where she also fell in love. Read more for Faith’s dating history.
When young Faith settled into the college life at Fordham, she met a young up and coming music producer by the name of Kiyamma Griffin. After dating for a year, they welcomed their first daughter together, Chyna in 1992. They would eventually break up the following year in 1993.
The Notorious B.I.G.Wenn
After moving to Los Angeles in 1992 and becoming a backup singer for Al B. Sure, Faith became noticed by the now famous hip-hop mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs. At the time, Diddy (then called Puff Daddy) was breaking into the music industry with his record label Bad Boy Records. Diddy already had acts Lil’ Kim, Junior Mafia and The Notorious B.I.G. signed to his record label. After hearing Faith sing, he immediately signed her as the first lady of Bad Boy Records. It was here where she met Brooklyn rapper, The Notorious B.I.G. or better known as “Biggie.” After a four-month engagement, the infamous hip-hop couple got married in 1994 and welcomed their son, Christopher, Jr. in 1996. Their marital bliss came to a brief halt, as the following year passed and in March of 1997, Biggie was violently gunned down in Los Angeles, California.
After being a widow for a year, Faith jumped back into the dating scene and met her second husband and ex-manager, Todd Russaw. They married in late 1998 and had two children: Joshua, 20 and Ryder, 12. They divorced in 2011.
Faith and music producer Stevie J. knew each other from back in the day at Bad Boy Records. They worked together on many hits but, never looked at each other as more than friends. After all, she was married to Biggie at the time, and he was dating the “Love is Blind” rapper, Eve. They reconnected in 2016 and started dating for a year. On July 17, 2018, they shocked the world when they announced that they officially tied the knot. Faith is the stepmother to Stevie J’s five kids, and Stevie J is the stepfather to her four. What a beautiful hip-hop family.
