Nude leaks amongst celebrities are nothing new in the rapidly changing world and spread of information through social media. Bella Thorne seemed to be the latest celebrity to fall victim in regards to having their private accounts being hacked and further threatened with her own nude photos as blackmail. Former Disney Channel star took to social media to explain the threats and feelings of lack of privacy and control, before handling the situation in her own way; by leaking her own photographs before her hacker could.
The Why
WENNOver Father’s Day weekend, after she had gotten hacked, an understandably pissed Bella Thorne decided shared this message with followers:
“Yesterday, as you all know, my shit was hacked. For the last 24 hours, I have been threatened with my own nudes. I feel gross, I feel watched, I feel someone has taken something special from me that I only wanted one special person to see. He has sent me multiple nude photos of other celebs, he won’t stop with me or them, he will just keep going….I’m putting this out because it’s MY DECISION NOW, U DON’T GET TO TAKE YET ANOTHER THING FROM ME. I can sleep better tonight knowing I took my power back….Here’s the photos he’s been threatening me with, in other words, here’s my boobies. So here, fuck u, and the last 24 hours I have been crying instead of celebrating my book while doing my book press. Oh yea, the FBI will be at your house shortly, so Watch. Your. Mother. Fuckin. Back.”
Following the message of why she was deciding to leak her own risky pictures of herself, Thorne proceeded to post the pictures of herself that qualified as nudes and tweeted out the saved conversation of threats between her and her hacker by further commenting herself “Fuck u and the power u think you have over me. I’m gonna write about this in my next book 😡😡😡,” and took back her control.

While common and doesn’t seem to stop people from committing the act, the offence of leaking someone’s private photographs, blackmail, or even hack into someone’s private accounts and devices, is still punishable by law and can even lead to some serious jail time.
Followers took to notice the odd Tweets and Snapchats being produced from Bella’s accounts last Thursday that made it apparent her profiles had been taken over. After Bella had regained access she then shared that the apparent hacker was not only being threatened with her own nudes but other celebrities as well. While the account’s and devices privacy have both been put back into Bella’s hands, the identity of the person behind the attempted leak is still unknown.
