Many remember Katharine McPhee from her rise to fame on season five of American Idol, where she surprisingly placed runner-up to Taylor Hicks in May 2006.
A Los Angeles native, the 35-year-old star was trained from the age of 12 by her mother, Peisha McPhee, a vocal coach. After dropping out of the Boston Conservatory, Katharine McPhee began pursuing a career in acting where she was cast in an MTV pilot that was never picked up.
In 2005, McPhee auditioned for American Idol after being persuaded by her parents and future husband, Nick Cokas.
McPhee launched her studio acting career in 2008 starring in The House Bunny and then starred in roles on television shows like CSI: NY, Smash, Family Guy, and Scorpion. She also reprised the lead female role in the popular Broadway show, Waitress from April 2018-August 2018. She has released five studio albums, five music videos, and 10 singles.
Let’s take a look into McPhee’s relationship history below.
Nick Cokas (2005-2014)
McPhee and Cokas met in 2005 while working in an L.A. theatre production, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. During her Idol run, the two remained a couple and later got engaged in November 2007. According to E-News, the couple tied the knot on February 2, 2008, at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church in front of more than 300 guests. During the reception, each sang to one another with McPhee performing “Unforgettable” alongside music producer, David Foster, who she became friends with while working on American Idol.
In May 2013, the couple quietly separated. McPhee was later spotted kissing TV show director Michael Morris. The actress’ rep said in a statement in regards to Cokas and McPhee’s separation, “The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends. They ask that people respect their privacy during this time.” In May 2014, McPhee filed for divorce that was finalized in February 2016.
Michael Morris (October 2013)
McPhee was spotted kissing her Smash director, Michael Morris in October 2013, who was married to actress Mary McCormack. The two share three daughters together and Morris has remained married to his wife for 15 years.
Elyes Gabel (2014-2016)
In September 2014, McPhee was spotted kissing her Scorpion co-star, Elyes Gabel despite her divorce not being finalized yet. The couple split in July 2016 and remained friendly, working together on their show that ended in 2018.
David Foster (2017-Present)
In May 2017, McPhee was spotted having a romantic dinner at Malibu’s Nobu Restaurant, with David Foster. McPhee told Health Magazine about her relationship with Foster, “We’re very close friends, and we’ve been friends for a long time,” she said. “I’m really, really fond of him, and I think he’s an incredible person. I’ve known him since I was 21 years old, you know? He produced my first single. So he’s been really good to me. People can say whatever they want.”
In July 2018, Foster proposed to McPhee in Anacapri, Italy. Despite the age difference, they are more focused on being in love. “There are just a lot of things when you look at the history of our relationship, neither of us could have written it,” McPhee told People Magazine. “I would never have imagined that this would be our future together.”
The two tied the knot on June 28, 2019, where they wed at the Church of Saint Yeghiche in South Kensington, London.
