Poll Crowns Most Admired People In The World: Find Out Who Made The List

A new poll released on the morning of July 18 reveals the world’s most admired people. Bill Gates, who took the top spot last year, remains the world’s most admired man but Angelina Jolie has been replaced as most admired woman.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has been crowned the world’s most admired woman, according to YouGov’s annual study of which public figures the people of Earth look up to.

Jolie, who is also a filmmaker and humanitarian on top of being an actress, has fallen to third place after taking first last year. Talk show host and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey has taken second place for the 2019 list.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates remains the world’s most admired man and has remained #1 since the survey’s beginning.

The top five men remain unchanged since last year. Former president Barack Obama is in second, actor Jackie Chan is third, Chinese president Xi Jinping in fourth and businessman Jack Ma is fifth.

The 2019 study expanded to cover the views of people in 41 countries, which is the most ever, with 42,000 people being interviewed to compile the list.

Two new men joined the top twenty this year: Indian actors Sharukh Khan and Salman Khan.

Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have both climbed the highest poll since last year, having risen three places to seventh place and 17th place, respectively.

Five new women join this year’s top twenty: Current First Lady Melania Trump and Chinese singer Peng Liyuan, who is the wife of president Xi Jinping. Chinese scientist Tu Youyou, Indian actress Sushmita Sen and talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres also join the list.

Entertainers dominate with 12 of the 20 being actresses, singers or TV presenters (however, some, like Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie, are also known for their humanitarian work).

Indian actress Aishwarya Rai has fallen the furthest, down five places to sixteen.

Most Admired In America

Going stateside, the Obamas have taken the top spot for most admired man and most admired woman. Donald Trump, Clint Eastwood, Bill Gates and Dwayne Johnson join Barack on the list while Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Melania Trump, Ellen DeGeneres and Queen Elizabeth II join Michelle.
