China’s ‘Real-Life Kung-Fu Panda’ Plays with Bamboo Stick

China’s state newspaper, People’s Daily wrote on their Twitter page about their “real-life kung-fu panda.” The post was about the 37-year-old clip of a live panda bear playing with a bamboo stick. A Weibo entertainment blogger initially took the video.

The post has received more than 27,000 shares in two days. Pandas are known for their slow motion. According to Daily Mailthey participate in daily “lazy” activity to preserve energy and to survive on their 99% diet of bamboo plants. They need to consume 20 to 40 pounds of bamboo to receive nutrients. They also like to eat small rodents.

Pandas are still considered endangered with 1800 living in the wild and 300 living in zoos and “breeding centers around the world.” Known to be slow movers, a giant panda’s average speed could reach at 88.3 fat an hour. They are still considered to be a rare species. It is believed a wild panda can survive up to 20 years and a captive panda can live up to 38 years old.

Kung Fu Panda has been a long-loved DreamWorks film. The story centers around a clumsy panda bear who saves the countryside from evil with his surprising martial arts kicks. The film features the voices of stars like Jack Black, Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman, and Angelina Jolie. The lovable panda, Po, did so well, DreamWorks released Kung Fu Panda 2in 2011 and Kung Fu Panda 3in 2016.

Po could teach us how to be open-minded with whomever we encounter, as hard as it may sometimes be. These beautiful, vulnerable creatures will hopefully remain protected. According to National Geographic,  the panda population is increasing thanks to reserving most of them to learn more about their elusive nature. There are ways we can help protect pandas as well, through websites like Panda International and WWF Panda.
