The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards were held on August 26th in Newark, NJ and hosted a ton of superstars. While some strutted their most iconic looks to date on the red carpet, others couldn’t even be bothered to show up! Check out the behind-the-scenes for this year’s nominees.
Billie Eilish took home three awards last night including “Best New Artist”, “Best Editing”, and “Push Artist of the Year”. However, she didn’t show up in person for the wins, since she was asleep in Russia during the ceremony! The “Bad Guy” singer is on tour currently.
Ariana Grande also took home awards including “Artist of the Year” and “Best Art Direction”, but was performing on tour during the award show. The “Thank U, Next” singer was eagerly attending a concert in Manchester, England, two years after the infamous Manchester Arena bombing that shook the artist to her core.
While the Jonas Brothers didn’t win the coveted “Best Group” award, the siblings still rocked it on the red carpet and even shared pre-VMAs moments with us via Instagram!
It seems the New Jersey native band was happy to be back home for the time being.
Joe Jonas even stood in front of a poster of his band and went hilariously unnoticed.
Lil Nas X, on the other hand, decided to pay a visit to a fan just before the awards show for a sweet surprise. The “Old Town Road” singer and meme-lord himself won two awards last night for “Best Direction” and “Song of the Year”.
Normani, who won “Best R&B Video”, took the opportunity to pose in front of the artistic VMA’s painted wall in Newark for a photo before the show!
While BTS took home two wins from the VMAs including “Best Group” and “Best K-Pop” (whatever that means), the boys were absent for the show and rightfully so. Their company announced the band would take an extended period of rest until October and that means no ceremonies! In the meantime, they’ve been uploading cool photos and videos of the boys being boys.
