Kendall Jenner has recently come under fire for cultural appropriation. The supermodel posted to her Instagram story on August 27th, revealing her new hairdo. The 23-year-old is on vacation in Jamaica with Hailey Baldwin and Justine Skye and wanted to give her followers a snippet of her life.

After pictures of Jenner out and about wearing cornrows surfaced, Twitter users immediately flocked to their keyboards to drag her for appropriating a traditionally African hairstyle without giving credit where credit is due. Black people are often shamed and discriminated for their natural hair, so it’s problematic when non-black people style their hair similarly and act as if they reinvented the wheel.
Being accused of cultural appropriation is not something surprising when it comes to the Kardashian-Jenner family. Kim Kardashian was the last family member to be under fire when she announced her new shapewear line’s name: Kimono. The controversy snowballed as people accused the star of using the name of a traditional Japanese garment to make her product trendy without respecting the lineage.

While many people accused the family of continuously borrowing from black culture to remain relevant, others defended Jenner when referencing how cornrows were actually a Viking hairstyle and should be acceptable for non-blacks to wear.
So far, there has been no word from the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star on the controversy. How do you feel about this situation?
