Bebe Rexha Reveals Feeling Like She Was Going To Get Raped In Recording Studio

Bebe Rexha was recently interviewed for Cosmopolitan UK in which she reveals some startling experiences about her road to stardom.

The 30-year-old singer discusses her battle with her weight as her record label pressures her to slim down. She previously let her Instagram followers and the world know earlier this year about her targetted size discrimination with a post that spoke about her experience trying to get a dress for the Grammys. It was becoming increasingly difficult for the star to get a glamorous outfit prepared for the award show as stylists were refusing to dress her because she was “too big”.

Although it’s still alarming that in this day and age, stars are still pressured to fit a mold, that isn’t the most shocking reveal of the interview. Rexha went on to describe several moments during her early career with people of power in the industry that can’t be described as anything other than sexual harassment. The singer alleged to the magazine,

“When I first got to LA, I worked with a very big producer. He put me in a room with lots of other songwriters and engineers who all seemed high [on drugs]. One writer walked in and said, ‘Listen—you have no hits, but I have loads, so I’m going to go downstairs and party with my friends and you’re going to write a song, record the vocals and edit it. That will be our song that we wrote together.'”

This experience happened at the home of the infamous Dr.Luke who is no stranger to allegations made against him by his mentees. You may know this from the shocking details of Kesha’s sexual assault allegations made against him back in 2014. Thankfully, thanks to Kesha‘s mother, Pebe Sebert, Rexha was able to dodge a sour situation.

“I remember being at a dinner party with [Kesha and her mother, Pebe Sebert]. Her mom came up to me and whispered, ‘Don’t do it.’ She was talking about working with Dr. Luke. The music industry can be a dark place, and she could have been trying to stop me from getting in her daughter’s way. But I listened and honestly? Trusting her was the best thing I ever did.”

The “Me, Myself & I” singer recalled another experience with a producer who couldn’t keep his hands to himself.

“There was a producer who would come into the studio and massage my feet. One time he tried to go above my knees and was getting a little rough, [so] I pulled my feet away. He said, ‘Nah, I’m going to do what I want’. But I was raised to never let someone touch my body if I don’t want them to.”

The songstress goes on to say that this “really famous” producer’s assistant informed Rexha that his boss wanted to buy her a sundress to wear with no underwear. As if that wasn’t bad enough, her own (former) manager tried to convince her to work with the producer anyway because she needed a “hit song”.

Perhaps the most shocking detail of all came from her story about working with a producer who had nasty rumors about him floating around. Rexha describes that day during the interview,

“There was one night. I was alone in the studio and a [different] producer had a group of five or six guys with him. I had heard things about him from his past and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I felt like I was going to get raped. I quietly called myself a taxi from the recording booth, which was enclosed, and I got the f–k out of there. It was the worst night ever.”

It’s never been a secret that the behind the scenes of the entertainment and music industry can be pretty dark. But perhaps what is all the more concerning is the hesitance to believe victims. Thankfully, Rexha was able to maneuver her way out of several toxic situations.
