Trump’s Administration Plans To Ban Vaping In The U.S.

Trump’s administration talked about their plan to ban vaping, non-tobacco flavored electronic cigarettes, thanks to the multiple deaths surrounding it. “The Trump Administration is making it clear that we intend to clear the market of flavored e-cigarettes to reverse the deeply concerning epidemic of youth e-cigarette use that is impacting children, families, schools, and communities,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement. “We will not stand idly by as these products become an on-ramp to combustible cigarettes or nicotine addiction for a generation of youth,” NBCNews reported.

There have been at least six respiratory illness deaths related to vaping. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaping respiratory illness jumped from 450 cases in 33 states. So many people started vaping because of the flavors you get when you vape. You can get grape, apple juice, bubble gum, candy, and way more. The flavors attract adults and teens and young children by marketing it as tasteful and fun. It’s easy to have someone get the vape for you if you are not of age to receive it yourself.

The American Vaping Association was not proud of Trump’s administration banning vaping. “A ban will remove life-changing options from the market that have been used by several million American adults to quit smoking,” the association said. Some people are applauding this move and think it’s the right thing to do, such as former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the governor of Michigan. Michigan became the first state to stop the sales of most flavored e-cigarettes and applauded Trump’s administration decision. “This is great news for our kids, our families, and our overall public health,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a statement. “Right now, companies are getting our kids hooked on nicotine by marketing flavors like apple juice, bubble gum, and candy.

Michigan’s ban will take effect in the next few weeks and will ban online and in stores items.
