The Focus of the New Album
More than a year ago, Rihanna confirmed she was making a new reggae album. While she has not revealed the official name, it is referred to as R9, as the Navy (Rihanna’s fan base), has labeled it. It will be her ninth album. In her recent interview with Abby Aguire Vogue, the singer says, “I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album. It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”
Aguire asked why reggae feels right for this moment, and Rihanna said, “Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves. It’s always the same high. Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”
Are There Going To Be Any Featured Artists?
Rihanna has revealed that she has been working with Lil Nas X but was not specific about what they’re working on. She says it “may not even be with music.”Other rumored collaborators on the album include Cardi B, Calvin Harris, A$AP Rocky, and Diplo, who told iHeartRadio, “We talked a little bit because she’s writing a lot of new music right now for her next project and, hopefully, we can connect.”
The week after her interview with Vogue, Rihanna registered a new song called “Private Loving” to the music-rights organization BMI.
When is She Releasing The Album?!
Rihanna still has not set a release date! Ever since she released her album ‘Rated R’, Rihanna has generally released her albums in November, although ‘ANTI’ was released in January. Let’s hope she decides to drop it within the next few months!
What’s Been Taking Her So Long?
The singer has had a lot on her plate! She takes great pride in running her brand and it has been hard to balance Fenty with making music. “I have been trying to get back into the studio,” she says. “It’s not like I can lock myself in for an extended amount of time like I had the luxury of doing before. I know I have some very unhappy fans who don’t understand the inside bits of how it works.”
Does She Plan On Leaving The Music Industry?
With the success of her past albums and her focus on her brand, it would not be a huge surprise to see the star pursue a new passion of hers. We all can’t do the same thing forever, and we need to grow in new areas. Luckily, that is not the case here!
“Oh, nooo,” she says. “Music is, like, speaking in code to the world, where they get it. It’s the weird language that connects me to them. Me the designer, me the woman who creates makeup and lingerie—it all started with music. It was my first pen pal–ship to the world. To cut that off is to cut my communication off. All of these other things flourish on top of that foundation.”
